EMAIL is so important, and people constantly LOSE BUSINESS and FRIENDS because of thoughtless emails. Periodically I will share EMAIL TIPS. I’ve researched and compiled TONS of links. Here’s an example of what NOT to do:

“Do any of my FB friends know how to use WordPress to create a static website or as a CMS tool?”

I called, clearly addressed her issues. I also emailed a very detailed WordPress response. This “marketing specialist” responded:

“Thanks for your message, it will be reviewed and responded to accordingly. To stay on top of the latest events, job opportunities, business tips and other resources, I invite you to join my professional networking group on …”

I ASK YOU: when you post a tech or any question, and someone takes time to leave a detailed phone call, and very organized, detailed email, how do you respond? Do you send out an auto email, promoting your business and groups (NOTHING personal nor relevant to the topic, although call/email was tailored to your needs).

Also, your INTERN, who knows NOTHING about the topic, calls to pick the brain of the person responding.

Are these viable ways to build a business? Relationships? Esp when you are supposed to be a pro in networking, branding, etc?

I say this lovingly. Pls treat people who respond to YOUR requests with the RESPECT they deserve. Auto email response? Intern? Really? Perhaps I have inspired some to think about this … Please share YOUR thoughts! Thank you and here’s to YOUR SUCCESS!

“Do any of my FB friends know how to use WordPress to create a static website or as a CMS tool?”

Have YOU ever asked these questions? Here’s my concise answer:

WordPress gives us the choice, to set the data as a Page or Post.

STATIC PAGES have permanent urls: PunkSellsOut.com/portfolio-client-sites

It will always show this info — a list of simple WordPress blogs/sites I’ve created. The sites are not complete, due to some client issues. PLUS the point was to redesign and reorganize the info better. BUT this PAGE will ONLY change if I edit text.

DYNAMIC POSTS change as we blog or post more info. That’s a typical blog. Main screen with blog listings change due to dates or content, shoved down as we post more. Typically, at end of month, existing posts are listed in the archive. They won’t show up on the main screen. They WILL display under the menus, search or category listing (depending up settings).

CMS: use of Categories and sub-categories organize the data. That’s how content is managed. Use of keywords, deep linking within the pages/posts and outbound linking to reliable sources are another component of CMS.

PunkRawkYoga.com
Left side of screen are BLOG ENTRIES or DYNAMIC POSTS.

POST navigational links: top of the screen. Arranged by CATEGORY.

Note some links have double arrows>> That indicates SUB-CATEGORIES.

STATIC PAGES: the larger tabs under the heading. They could be store location/hours/directions if this were a brick-and-mortar store.

FAQs could be STATIC PAGES or DYNAMIC POSTS.

CMS: NOTE every POST (on this layout/theme) displays one or more small colored boxes, w/text, above each blog entry. Those are the Categories. Click on a Category box to see a list of other posts in the same category.

The administrator/designer/programmer sets how many categories/sub-categories to display. Depending upon how the layout or theme is set up, it can be a quick change, or time spent delving into theme coding.

I only built these two blogs/sites last week. They need logos, more social media icons, more bells and whistles. But in the meanwhile, I’m getting GREAT responses from my Facebook pals. I only mentioned these sites briefly, not ready to make public in a big way yet.

So MY questions are:
–Does someone have a WordPress blog?
–Need one?
–Need help using it?

I know some fine affordable designers for people who want custom blogs. I often create them for others, but I PREFER advising about content, navigation, effective keyword usage for SEO, integrating SMO (although I am not a Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn PRO, I help people BEFORE they hire a pro, saving them a lot of time and money!)

I’ve been designing/working w/sites since 1995, starting with static HTML, then Dreamweaver (static HTML commercial s/w), eagerly embraced both WordPress and Joomla (another CMS) for several years.

I EXCEL helping people determine why they want/need a WP blog, essential elements, and then they can make wiser decisions who to hire, do it themselves, where to focus to obtain the best results.

ALSO, I taught a TON of computer classes at colleges and computer training centers. I have training certs and many years experience. I haven’t posted any tutorials yet. But I excel in creating step by step handouts (which are often MUCH better than a tiny, tiny screen, trying to decipher what is being displayed). I love training!

I juggle a lot. I’m the MOST published West Coast early punk photographer. I know online usage. I help so many people, but often not credited.

I love to help people. Please let me know how I can be of service.

Namaste.

I’ve created blogs for a few folks through the years. Some drag their heels, finding all kinds of excuses not to build upon these easy to update blog/sites. Do you know what I’d do if someone KNEW MORE than I, and set up a blog for me?? I’d kiss their feet and update it like crazy!

I don’t understand why people stick to old static sites, sites others own — be it Blogger or Facebook — and won’t use these blogs I create? They tell me their sites ARE NOT working for them. But their friends like it. Have your friends ever given you any helpful ideas or have ANY idea HOW to improve traffic and conversions? Will they take the time to effectively analyze and provide feedback? Are they successful online? So why listen to them?

Or people are “married” to an existing design, even if it’s busy, chaotic, hard to find and confusing. That’s the number one reason sites need to be re-designed.

Why stick with something which is NOT working?

I’ve changed designs, text color/size, copy/pasted text, with improved editing, spelling, punctuation, improved their images, created logos. Might not be exactly what they want, but better than what they have, and within their budget. Which sometimes is free, or a trade for services or being able to give to a community I support.

I DO have college degrees/certifications and years of teaching all this at colleges. Plus years of studying the top web designers and bloggers. I do come with some experience and pedigree.

A WordPress blog/site is the SOLID FOUNDATION of ANY BUSINESS OR ACTIVITY. It’s the MOST effective way to engage others (and yourself!)!

As activists, raw foodies, yoginis, writers, speakers, educators, donors, investors, workers, interns, artists, techies, we ALL NEED to be involved in helping These/Our Green/Art/Music/whatev Tribes grow and expand and NETWORK together.

WHATEVER we are doing, profit, non-profit, bartering, doing it ourselves, we need UNITE IN COMMUNITY. We ALL NEED SOLID ONLINE PRESENCES WE CONTROL.

WHY so much resistance? Any feedback greatly appreciated.

We have formidable opponents who want us to fail. Their GREED is strong; their money endless. We GREENS (raw foodies/yoginis/artists/musicians) are many, but scattered about, many grass-roots groups; varying sizes and influence.

WE REQUEST strong, growing, expanding, technically savvy web presences to reach out to more people.

WORLDWIDE, people WANT to do something. We MUST become BETTER ORGANIZED!!

Why not use all the technology, tools, and resources available?

Then the world will see we are in fact STRONGER. We are tapping into a powerful WORLD-WIDE consciousness.

New BUSINESS and LAW can THRIVE in this environment. As can all living creatures, flora and fauna.

I look forward to your response.

Much success in all your endeavors.

Namaste,

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Friendly (SEF) urls (web addresses), plus well-organized sites, with meaningful deep-linking within a site, are probably the most important components. We will be posting several articles, plus resource guides and links to other sites devoted to this subject.

To keep things simple, please think about this:

When you read a book, you might look at the table of contents or the index to find information. We are persuaded to pick up a magazine based on cover articles. It’s easiest to look in the table of contents to find information. It’s frustrating to flip many pages of ads to finally find a listing of the articles. Now imagine that experience online.

When your information is presented in an organized manner, using relevant keywords, consistent navigational tools such as horizontal and vertical menu bars on EVERY page, plus menus in the footer, you are helping to engage your readers and build site/blog loyalty. Not everyone will find your site via the home page. Most spend a few seconds before deciding to move to another site. We have too many choices, so if you want or need loyal readers who will spread the word, you need to help them!

It’s not enough to have a pretty site. In fact, most people love their sites and yet they are fugly. Yes, I said it and I meant it. I am appalled so many are so in love with their sites, yet complain people don’t find them nor return. Time for a reality check. Some of the most popular sites are simple, maybe even boring to you. But they provide consistent, easy to find tools which enables Google and other search engines, and their readers, to find information.

Tools like Search fields, keywords, Titles using keywords which relate to the article. Writing like newspapers: Who, What, How, Why, When and Where.

More info in upcoming articles. But think about this!

Information Sharing and Disclosure:
I do not rent, sell, or share personal information about you with other people or companies except to provide products or services you request.

If you are bothered by anything we post, block your kid’s access. There’s nothing X-rated, but in this increasingly prurient society, someone might object to my use of certain words or political convictions. That’s something you have to deal with, not us.
